I will not be in Times Square this year at midnight..
I have a previous engagement uptown.
But you can believe I'll be soon there after
A few truths...
People start standing as early as 9am..
By 3PM Times Square is in lock down..No one gets in or out..
You never see it on TV but people are backed up to 57 street and down to 34st ..
Cross Streets from 41st to 57st are Blocked with huge cement boulders.
If you live in the area, you are stopped at 6 ave or 8ave.and have to prove were you are going.
Since I never get in the thick of things, the closest I have ever gotten to the New Years Eve happenings is mid street on 47th.
From there one can only see the Coke sign..That is looking up.
47th is jammed with people from the 47 street's hotels, bars, and residents, partying in the street.
I'm sure every adjacent cross street to Times Square has similar partying going on..
Once midnight comes and goes people pour out of Times Square.
Laughing, singing, stranger greeting stranger with a "Happy New Year"
as they walk to the subway, bus or car..
No one can enter or re-enter Times Square until 1am after the clean up.
You'd be amazed what the cleanup crew finds..
The confetti which is the size of a silver dollars (no tiny stuff) is everywhere..
Even with the clean up, confetti is everywhere for days after.
